5 Easy Summer Tasks To Keep Your Garden Looking Fabulous

  1. Water your containers early in the morning. Your plants which are living in containers are likely to dry out after a hot day and a windy evening in Perth, so take your early morning cuppa out into the garden and give everything a decent drink (not a sprinkle) before the heat starts for the day.
  2. Give everything a dose of Seasol and PowerFeed mixed in a watering can say every three weeks. I generally add one capful of each in a 9-litre watering can. This will keep your plants healthy and able to withstand the Summer heat so much better.
  3. Hold off on pruning or trimming if it is over 30 degrees Celcius. The leaves of your plants will burn and become very stressed unnecessarily if you prune at this time of the year and it is too darn hot for you to be out there with your trimmer and your secateurs too, so, if that is the excuse you need, take it, it is all yours!
  4. Keep Chilli Thrip at bay from your roses by using these four easy techniques, water each rose overhead as well as at the base each morning, just a light hand water will do. The Chilli Thrip does not like damp soil. Give each rose a seaweed solution and some mature compost every 4 weeks. This will keep the plant healthy. If the Chilli Thrip gets away from you spray with Yates Success or Yate Rose Gun in the ready-to-use pack if you only have a few roses. If you see any affected stems or flowers remove them immediately and dispose fo in the red-lidded bin in a sealed plastic bag.
  5. Use Mature Compost by literally chucking on a couple of handfuls around the base of each plant. You can get great Mature Compost from Swan Valley Landscape Supplies https://www.swanvalleylandscapingsupplies.com.auhttps://www.swanvalleylandscapingsupplies.com.au, Green Life Soil Company https://greenlifesoil.com.au/https://greenlifesoil.com.au/ or simply so-named “Mature Compost” from Bunnings. All will work well and improve your soil. Healthy Soil, Healthy Plants. You will notice the difference in weeks. It is such an easy job -just chuck it on and water it in.
